Visit Northern Virginia just released their "50 Best Restaurants of 2025" list, and the Japanese cuisine category is absolutely stacked this year.

I know, I know—usually, I’m here talking about housing inventory or interest rates. But hear me out. When people decide where to live, especially when relocating from other major cities or countries, they care about more than just house size.

They want to know what daily life feels like.

I’ve had clients from California ask about sushi quality before we even stepped inside a house. I’ve had clients from Japan ask if they can find authentic ramen in the suburbs. The answer to both is a resounding yes.

If you are looking for the best of the best, here are the 3 spots that made the cut.

1. Modan (Tysons)

Vibe: High-End & Polished ($$$$) Rank: #6 Overall

Modan is modern Japanese food done in a very clean, sophisticated way. They specialize in dry-aged fish and service that pays serious attention to detail. It feels part art show, part sushi experience.

  • Must Try: The king salmon carpaccio with truffle aioli, dry-aged lamb chops in spicy miso, and the passionfruit kakigori for dessert.

2. Wren (Tysons)

Vibe: Lively & Accessible ($$) Rank: Notable Mention

Don’t let the fact that it’s located inside The Watermark Hotel fool you—this place is the real deal. It’s more affordable than Modan but doesn’t skimp on flavor. The vibe is energetic, making it perfect for a night out with friends.

  • Must Try: Hamachi carpaccio with jalapeño citrus soy, pork belly bao buns, and miso black cod.

3. Yume Sushi (Arlington)

Vibe: Luxury Ingredients ($$$$) Rank: #4 Overall

If you want a "showstopper" meal, this is it. Yume Sushi is where high-end ingredients meet incredible technique. The space fills up fast, but the service remains warm and inviting.

  • Must Try: The "Monster Trio." It’s a bite of A5 wagyu with foie gras, scallop with uni, and toro with truffle oil and caviar.

Why This Matters for Real Estate

Northern Virginia has one of the most diverse food scenes on the East Coast. That didn’t happen by accident. We have a massive international population, strong incomes, and residents who expect quality.

If you are looking to buy a home in Tysons, Arlington, or McLean, you want to know that your lifestyle matches your investment.
