In summer 2025, paperwork filed with Fairfax County revealed plans for an IKEA-branded 142-seat restaurant at 4320 Chantilly Shopping Center, which is the same site as the Dulles Expo Center. That application was withdrawn shortly after. But "IKEA Chantilly" started showing up as a listed store location in internal IKEA U.S. documents and in design portfolios from freelance designers around the world.
Then on October 30, 2025, IKEA made it official. The Swedish furniture giant confirmed plans for a Chantilly store at the former Dulles Expo Center site, with a spring 2026 opening target.

The Dulles Expo Center, which had served as Northern Virginia's go-to event venue for over three decades, hosted its final events through late 2025 and closed to begin the conversion.
