According to Forbes, one of the biggest names in golf course design is coming back to Virginia.

Tiger Woods and his design firm, TGR Design, have been selected to create a brand-new private championship golf course at Tributer Resort on Lake Anna, marking another major milestone for one of the state's fastest-growing luxury golf communities.

The announcement, first reported by Forbes contributor Erik Matuszewski, is part of a long-term vision to transform Tributer Resort into one of the premier golf and lifestyle destinations on the East Coast.

The new member-only course is expected to begin construction by 2028 and will become the second 18-hole championship layout at Tributer Resort.

It will join the highly acclaimed Cutalong Golf Club, which opened in 2021 and quickly earned national recognition. In 2023, Golf Digest named Cutalong one of the Top 5 Best New Private Golf Courses in the United States, helping establish the resort as an emerging destination for serious golfers.

Rather than creating a similar layout, TGR Design plans to deliver an entirely different golf experience that showcases the property's dramatic natural landscape.

Designed Around Virginia's Natural Beauty

According to Forbes, the new course will stretch approximately 7,310 yards from the championship tees while winding through:

  • Rolling farmland
  • Mature hardwood forests
  • Pine groves
  • Elevated terrain overlooking Lake Anna

TGR Design President Bryon Bell said the routing has been carefully designed so that every hole offers a unique playing experience.

The course will feature a balanced mix of uphill and downhill holes, changing sightlines, strategic shot values, and natural landforms that encourage creativity while remaining enjoyable for golfers of all skill levels.

Like many of Tiger Woods' previous designs, the goal is to challenge elite players without overwhelming recreational golfers.

Tributer Resort's Bigger Vision

The golf course announcement is only one piece of a much larger master plan.

Since acquiring the property in 2018, Reef Capital Partners has steadily expanded Tributer Resort into a luxury residential and recreational community centered around golf and waterfront living.

When complete, plans call for more than 900 residences, including:

  • Golf villas
  • Cottages
  • Estate homesites
  • Waterfront properties

Future amenities are expected to include:

  • Multiple restaurants and dining venues
  • Wellness and fitness facilities
  • Lakeside recreation
  • Walking and trail systems
  • Curated outdoor experiences
  • Expanded hospitality offerings

Golf members will receive priority access to both championship courses, creating a destination designed for year-round living rather than simply weekend golf trips.

Why This Project Matters

Tiger Woods has become increasingly active as a golf course designer, with projects spanning North America and beyond.

His portfolio now includes acclaimed courses and developments in locations such as:

  • Utah
  • Missouri
  • Mexico
  • The Caribbean

The Lake Anna project continues that momentum while bringing another world-class golf destination to Virginia.

Combined with the award-winning Cutalong Golf Club, the addition of a second championship course positions Tributer Resort among the state's most ambitious golf developments in recent years.

For golfers, homeowners, and real estate investors alike, the project represents a significant investment in both the future of Lake Anna and Virginia's growing reputation as a destination for championship golf.

Could Lake Anna Become Virginia's Next Golf Destination?

Lake Anna has long been known for boating, waterfront homes, and weekend getaways.

Now, with Tiger Woods designing a second championship course and hundreds of luxury residences planned, the area is beginning to attract attention from an entirely different audience.

If the vision comes together as planned, Tributer Resort could become one of the premier private golf communities on the East Coast—bringing together championship golf, luxury real estate, and lakefront living in one destination.
