The Fourth of July is always a big deal in Northern Virginia, but 2026 is especially meaningful because America is celebrating its 250th birthday.

From small-town parades to massive fireworks shows, here are seven of the best places to celebrate Independence Day across Northern Virginia.

1. Fairfax City Independence Day Celebration

Fairfax City hosts one of the best all-day Fourth of July celebrations in Northern Virginia.

The day begins with a large parade through downtown Fairfax and ends with live music, food vendors, family activities, and fireworks at Fairfax High School.

For the 77th year, the Prince William County Fairgrounds in Manassas will host nine days of the countywide fair from July 31 - August 9, 2026. 

 

The fair should draw big crowds over the course of the nine day period with carnival rides like the ferris wheel and merry-go-round/ It will also feature plenty of animal-based fun including: a petting zoo, pig races, dog shows, camel rides, pony rides and farm animals.


All of this as well as carnival food vendors will be available each day the fair is open, but there are also special events planned. The first and last day of the fair (July 31 and August 9) will be marked with demolition derbies.
