SPA has had a long history in Northern Virginia with its roots grounded in Fairfax County. Over the last 50 years the company has grown into the tech giant it is known to be today. It’s considered a top work place with many current and former employees speaking on the positive workplace environment.
Back in early September SPA announced plans to grow their presence in Alexandria and further develop their HQ in Fairfax County. Chantilly and Lorton facilities are also undergoing further development and in October SPA acquired Group W, a top-tier data science organization for the Department of Defense, which has expanded SPA’s modeling and simulation capabilities and created a need to size-up most of their NoVa based operations. So what does this mean for NoVa residence?
Well, for one: a huge influx of jobs. In October there was a massive wave of new hires, and the company isn’t stopping there. This week alone SPA is looking to fill a Program Manager, a DevOps Engineer position and plenty of other roles tars in need of designation. SPA is predicting that around 500 new jobs will be created in Alexandria and 700 will pop up in Fairfax— around 1,200 in total— so if you’re in tech, working within the data industry or in world of finance then you’re in luck.
New jobs, means new office buildings. SPA just spent a couple million on a 239,000-square-foot building that they’re planning on renovating into a fresh new office space. This building will provide the company with more space to jumpstart plans they’ve had for new technology and the implementation of them into critical departments.
It’s not just the local economy that SPA is affecting though. The systems company has already put efforts towards integrating into the NoVa community. Just this week SPA employees working within their Space and Intel Division volunteered to clean up a highway in Chantilly, VA.
Last week SPA employees handed out cups of water in the 2025 Marine Corps Marathon in Arlington, a run that focuses on supporting U.S marines by laying the course around the nation’s most well known landmarks. Local schools and nonprofits in NoVa will be getting in on SPA growth too with the addition of STEM programs provided by the company that hope to give youth the opportunity to try programming and other STEM oriented skills.
Partnership with the City of Alexandria allowed SPA to receive a Commonwealth grant which will go towards city infrastructure such as new bus stops, walkways, curb extensions— the whole shebang. This marks the first time Alexandria has agreed to use AIF funds for an appeal to job creation.
Stay tuned as more information about SPA’s expansion and how it evolves in the following months.
