Hidden Speakeasy in Tysons Corner: My Invite-Only Night at the Naisho Room
Tucked away behind an unmarked door at the Watermark Hotel, The Naisho Room is Tysons' newest speakeasy - an intimate escape from the bustle of Capital One Center. It blends Japanese-inspired cocktails, moody lighting, and a sense of exclusivity that genuinely transports you to another world.
Located within the Watermark Hotel, The Naisho Room connects to the hotel's restaurant The Wren, giving guests access to elevated bar bites and Japanese-influenced cuisine. The menu features creative cocktails and small plates that reflect the venue's fusion of East and West.
I recently had the chance to attend an invite-only media night (shoutout to my Instagram fam). As someone who covers Northern Virginia for a living, I can tell you this is one of the most interesting things to open in Tysons in a long time.
Finding the Secret Entrance
How do you get into The Naisho Room? The journey is part of the charm. You walk through a gym within the Watermark Hotel. From there, you're greeted by a host who, at first glance, appears to be checking you in for a spa appointment. That's all part of the act - they're actually your guide to the hidden door.
Once you step through, it opens up into a dimly lit, Tokyo-inspired lounge with a DJ spinning actual vinyl records, soft ambient lighting, art installations including Takashi Murakami skate decks on the wall, and one of the sleekest bar setups I've seen in Northern Virginia. It genuinely felt like something you'd stumble onto in a side street in Shibuya, not steps from Capital One Center.
"Naisho" (内緒) is the Japanese word for "secret," which pretty much sums up the whole vibe.
The Cocktails: What to Order
The cocktail menu is curated and every drink I tried was dialed in. Two standouts:
- The Conservative by Wren: A bold, incredibly smooth old fashioned made with Maker's Mark Private Barrel "Ishigai." If you're a whiskey person, this is the one. Sophisticated without trying too hard.
- The Placebo: Dangerously easy to drink. Planteray White Rum, Amaretto Disaronno, pineapple, coconut, and lime. If you prefer something lighter and more tropical, this disappears fast.
The presentation is next level too. One drink came in a wild ceramic monster cup that's basically designed for your Instagram story. The drinks are crafted by chef Hobin Kim's team, and the attention to detail shows.
The Food: Small Plates That Punch Above Their Weight
While the focus is on cocktails and ambiance, the small plates are no afterthought. We sampled a bunch, but the lobster crunch sushi was the clear winner - crispy, fresh, and packed with flavor.
To close out the night, the creme brulee was flawless. Crunchy sugar top, rich custard, fresh berries. A perfect finish to the whole experience.
The Vibe: Tokyo Chic Meets NoVA
The Naisho Room is more than just drinks and food. The DJ spinning vinyl, the Takashi Murakami skate decks on the wall, the red mood lighting, the curated art installations - it all adds up to an elevated but unpretentious energy. It's the kind of place where you lean in to talk, where the music is good enough to listen to but quiet enough for conversation.
This is a completely different side of Tysons Corner than most people know. Between the Ritz-Carlton coming to Tysons, the Piazza at Tysons, and spots like the Naisho Room, the nightlife and dining scene is evolving fast.
