OK, this one is exciting because we are not talking about the usual chains. We are talking about high-concept, experience-driven spots that are actually going to change how people see certain neighborhoods in Northern Virginia.
If you are looking for where the energy is shifting in 2026, you need to keep an eye on these five spots. Let’s run through them.
1. Repeal Speakeasy in Manassas

This place is hidden inside the new Tempo by Hilton hotel on the NOVA Live campus, and it is not just a bar. It is a full theatrical experience.
They have committed completely to the 1920s Prohibition theme. We are talking dim lighting, velvet furniture, and staff dressed in flapper dresses and flat caps. The whole production.
The drinks are apparently incredible. According to Northern Virginia Magazine, the menu is a love letter to the golden age of cocktails. There is something called the Bathtub Gin Fizz that gets served in a miniature porcelain bathtub with lavender foam.
Where to find it: 9849 Discovery Blvd, Manassas, VA (Inside Tempo by Hilton)
Live Near the Action: Manassas Real Estate
Manassas is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after and best-value markets in Northern Virginia. With new amenities like Repeal opening up, demand is rising.

2. Barnes & Noble in Alexandria

Wait, didn’t Barnes & Noble close like 100 stores? Yeah, they did. But now they are in aggressive growth mode. According to ALXnow, they are opening over 60 stores this year.
This location is going into the West End at the Shoppes at Foxchase. It is 13,000 square feet and taking over the former Walgreens space.
They are using their new modern store layout with a heavy focus on toys, games, and puzzles alongside the books. This is a big deal because it shows physical retail is back. People want bookstores again. They want places to browse, sit down, flip through books, and hang out. That concept is not dead; it just needed to evolve.
Where to find it: 4515 Duke St, Alexandria, VA (Shoppes at Foxchase)
3. Abricott in Reston Town Center

If you have walked through Reston Town Center recently and seen a shop glowing with this fresh papaya orange color, that is Abricott.
It is a gourmet market specializing in high-end dried fruits, nuts, and Turkish delights, all sourced directly from Turkey. The owner realized you could not get this premium quality at Whole Foods or anywhere else locally, so he brought the concept here.
Abricott is apparently visually stunning and smells incredible. They have chickpeas roasted six different ways, including a chocolate-covered version.
Where to find it: 11900 Market St, Reston, VA
4. Eclairons in Old Town Alexandria

This is taking over the old Firehook Bakery spot on South Washington Street. It is a family-owned French pastry shop where the owner’s father has over 40 years of baking experience.
This isn’t some corporate concept. This is a real French pastry tradition coming to Old Town. They are working on something called the Alexandria Cake—an almond coconut macaron with pistachio cream and white chocolate glaze. That sounds ridiculous in the best way.
According to Alexandria Living Magazine, they have been renovating the space to give it a modern update while keeping the historic facade intact.
Where to find it: 430 S Washington St, Alexandria, VA
5. Shake Shack in Old Town Alexandria

Shake Shack is finally coming to King Street, and they picked an incredible location: the historic Burke & Herbert Bank building near Washington Street.
So you have a modern burger brand adapting to a historic setting. That is how you do development right. You preserve the character of the building while bringing new energy to the block. According to Alexandria Living Magazine, they are hiring now and aiming for a spring opening.
Why This Matters When high-concept restaurants, bakeries, and retail spots open in a neighborhood, it signals something. It means the demographics are shifting. It means there is money moving in. It means developers and business owners see opportunity.
